This was a commission to demonstrate ideas for housing layouts for a developer for a potential site. The existing stone building in the centre of the site would be retained and converted as a lynch pin for the new housing to group around. The new housing units would be formed into clusters each with their own shared outdoor space and parking. The new houses can then be orientated to best make use of solar gain etc rather than following a rigid and arbitrary street pattern. Each house would have a small private courtyard garden in addition. This maximises the amount and usability of the outdoor space and avoids the usual ranks of closely spaced houses separated by tiny private gardens.
